The Multiplying Power of Cellphones

The way cellphones have led innovation and growth in the communications industry is astonishing. As the world is going super tech savvy, manufacturers observe these growing needs of people and try to address them by making more sophisticated handsets. Many high-end mobile phones available now have the processing power and storage capacity that was available in desktop computers a mere 4-5 years back

With this rapid technology advancement in cellphones coming with multiple features to make your life easy, the government also seems to be promoting the devices openly by featuring their free government cellphone plans. As such, cell phones are slowly becoming indispensable for all, in the real sense of the word. They no longer serve as communications devices to help people connect with each other over a call or text message. Mobiles serve as watches, calculators and alarm clocks too! Even with the limited free games that come with basic handsets, they are deemed fit enough to fill your leisure time.

Besides calling, there is a fair number of other tasks that cellphones of today perform. Here is a quick snapshot and the percentage to which these tasks are performed using cellphones.

In a queer way, cellphones help us so much to manage our daily schedules and work that they’ve become a part of our existence. Their contribution is big but it often goes unnoticed as we consider them very much a part of our being. For one, they help us navigate unfamiliar neighborhoods, they hold the key to all our contacts, e-mails, and addresses, making them available for us at a quick moment. The calendar function helps us manage our reminders and ensure that we never miss an important meeting or appointment.

While the list is endless, below are some of the things that more advanced mobile phones are also doing:

Camera: cellphones have cameras that help us not only click pictures but also let us save them for posterity or transfer them to other devices and people.

Audio recording: Mobile phones can be used to record conversations or a vocal note and even brief notes to oneself.

Video recording: Cellphones can work as video cameras that become quite handy at functions, family events or parties.

Instant messaging and Social Networking: Everything recorded can be shared with others by using the messaging facility or via social networking platforms.

Gaming platform: Mobile games have slowly turned into big business in the past few years as people seek entertainment in their free time and find it great if their mobiles serve as that kind of a platform.

Documents viewer: Sophisticated software have made it possible to also view and edit documents on the cellphone, in the popular MS-Office file formats or other compatible formats.

Music player: Almost everyone nowadays has an appetite for music and cellphones address that need aptly by serving as an mp3 player as well as a radio.

Looking at how these devices are slowly changing the way world functions, it won’t surprise us if the cellphones of tomorrow turn out to be the remote controls of our life. With faster networks and amazing data services, cellphones have pretty much become the most dependable and useful gadgets of our times.

The Buzz from Mobile World Congress 2015

This years’ Mobile World Congress was as spectacular as it could get and it continues to attract various attendees from outside the wireless industry. At the recent event, keynotes were fairly addressed by non-wireless players such as Nissan-Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google SVP Sundar Pichai and even Cablevision COO Kristin Dolan.

Among the many interesting events, there were some that stood out. So we bring to you the highlights of the show as follows.

·         News of the Event: Samsung presumably had the most well-attended press conference at this year’s WMC. It launched new versions of its flagship line of smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. Further, Google’s Sundar Pichai also confirmed rumors of his company launching an MVNO in the U.S. in the forthcoming months. He also explained how the forthcoming wireless service will be a little different because it will make cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity experiences seamless.

·         Controversy: It’s been quite some time that news about unlicensed LTE has been making the rounds. However, at MWC, LTE-U appeared to finally get a grip, particularly as operators such as T-Mobile US and Verizon Wireless shared thoughts about the technology. Wi-Fi proponents are concerned because of operator support and the unlicensed spectrum bands have always been considered home for the entrepreneurs and upstarts.

·         Celebrity that turned Heads: The FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s crowd pulling presence at the Mobile World Congress generated quite a lot of interest. A big reason behind Wheeler being in such demand at MWC was also about how well the FCC contested the net neutrality ruling. Although Wheeler’s sphere of influence is majorly in the U.S., global players have shown keen interest in his opinions because of their worldwide implications.

·         Most Significant improvement: One of the most awaited and appreciated steps is the GSMA finally making their Wi-Fi network powerful enough for its numerous users and for putting the Wi-Fi network password directly into the name of the network ID.

This is not all that happened at the much talked about WMC 2015. The list is far from complete. However, we have tried to gather in here the most talked about and impactful news for you from the event.
